We sat in our room and made all this music over the past few years by ourselves. How was your experience opening up for Aminé on his TourForYou tour recently?

College is stressful. But you have to be comfortable putting things out and be confident in your work.

At times it’s lush and glowing, at others it’s desolate and ridden with anxiety. It's funny, the first time I ever sang somebody said, 'you have an African accent when you sing.' What am I doing?

There's always been this level and quality of music I've wanted to attain, and I feel like when I made that song, I had reached that level.

I hope people get lost in the world of feelings we created, and in the midst of that find solace in their own journey as a human. I started playing piano as a kid but hated the structure. For people who don't meet the absurd criteria, the mood of the officer can often become the difference between life and death. School isn't fun but you know I have to do what I have to do. What was the creative process of this project like? And as a kid, I was creating sounds and soundscape in my head, but I never got to a studio to record them or put them on paper. EM: Well I think you did a great job on your project, man. I'm going to be going to Europe this summer.

I'm relieved that people can hear it and now I can build upon it. You know what else is stressful? We would make 30 masters or mixes for one song and then not touch it for a year.

But also, in general, I think the music in the space that it was in was natural and pure but still innovative at the same time. I think the artists that take that time and make something a bit more natural do better to connect with their audiences. Ideas flowed through naturally and special moments were captured. O: In an African household, you can't not listen to Fela and a bunch of African music, especially at Church, so that was all embedded in me. Everything was super tranquil.

I'm working hard to make my videos and shows depict the music exactly how I felt while making it. I feel like people who come will want to cry, or riot or whatever. It was like living in a chamber of dreams and feelings. Especially since we did it all ourselves.

Aside from opening for Aminé at the Canadian leg of his TourForYou tour, ODIE has been co-signed by Drake's OVOSound and his singles have landed on major playlists on Apple Music and Spotify. The way the project was made was raw and analog. Of course, that's something I'm able to benefit from as well.

And then in high school, I had a friend who had a studio, and he invited me over to make a song. Young people in Nigeria have successfully managed to use technological innovations to organize and make the #EndSARS protests run incredibly efficiently and easily. That was the big reason why I wanted to call it, . I was just chilling.

EM: I found your music through a song called, "Little Lies." Along with his good friend Yaqob, ODIE is part of Unité, a multi-cultural collective that is putting their own unique and creative touch on modern hip-hop and R&B. I question myself, what my purpose is, things like that. EARMILK: How're you feeling man? I feel like it's a generic question, but it's a good one for someone like you with so much range. Outside of that UNITÉ is a collective made up my best friends. The ideas I have for our shows are crazy. On top of all that you have extracurricular activities like athletics, partying and even buying and cooking food. Analogue is my coming of age story.

It has been more than a week since young people in Nigeria took to the streets to demand that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, infamously known as SARS, be scrapped for good. There were days I'd sit in my room in the dark and think, 'damn, everything I'm making is terrible. Where does all that come from? O: A lot of the ways I got into music I can't even track. ODIE describes the album as “my coming of age story... 2018 is the year where my fans will be fully introduced to who I am as an artist and as a human, flaws and all.” The album has ODIE's soft vocals and a percussive rhyming throughout. The fact that we're able to live in this age where information and anything is accessible whenever you want, I think that's great.

And going off of that, how does it feel to be coming from that "analog" background when in 2018, digital is such a dominant force in the music industry? O: Yea, this is only the beginning. EM: I'd agree. I've been working on a couple of short films.

We've been working on it so long it felt like it would never happen but it's out now so I'm happy!

But regardless of the emotion seeping out of your speakers, Analogue remains true to itself and true to the artist that created it. I wanted to give people something that they hadn't heard from me, and at the same time, I was so proud of that song. Managing that lifestyle while getting good grades is a fulltime job. O: Honestly, that was the fastest song we made on the project.

Over the process of making it, I realized the fastest and best way to do something is just to understand that everything is a process. The first part is very tranquil and smooth and the second part sees reality punching you in the face. I want to make sure the visuals communicate that world as well. Become the best version of me I can be. I put on my favorite pair of pajamas and then I went to Apple to speak with the people at Apple Music. It was sunny out; we had just smoked.
