Nevertheless, we did appreciate the Limited’s leather-lined A- and B-pillar grab handles that looked nicer and felt richer than the plastic pieces found in the Luxe.

The real surprise, though, comes at night thanks to a model-specific welcome light that illuminates beneath the running boards.

In case you forget what trim level QX80 you’re driving, Infiniti embosses the first- and second-row seatbacks with the “Limited” name. The Luxe’s standard dubs are probably the best choice for those willing to sacrifice some style for additional comfort. The same motif lines the doors and center console covers, as well. Powered by a potent 5.6 Litre V8 that offers 400hp while perfectly paired with a 7 Speed Automatic transmission that delivers smooth and responsive shifts. Dubbed the Limited, the $89,800 model comes standard with all-wheel-drive and features a number of trim-specific niceties over its lesser Luxe counterpart, which starts at $65,100 for the entry-level rear-wheel-drive model but can easily top $80,000 with options. Wrapped in two-tone gray and black leather, the seats feature Alcantara inserts and contrasting stitching.

There’s no missing the seats in the QX80 Limited. If you need big towing and people-carrying ability, but you want a full-size SUV that speaks to your place in the world, the 2019 Infiniti QX80 will impress friends and strangers alike. Still, there’s no doubt the 400-hp QX80 Limited feels every bit the nearly three-ton luxury barge that it is. Whereas the Luxe comes standard with 20-inch wheels and is available with 22 inchers, the Limited wears a set of trim-specific dark, machine-finished 22-inch wheels.

Keen eyes, however, will notice the Limited benefits from additional chrome on its lower fascia. It's offered in two well-equipped trim levels: Luxe and the fully loaded Limited.

Despite its extra front-end chrome, the Limited ditches the chrome mirror caps of the lesser Luxe for a set of body-color pieces.

Arguably the most noticeable difference between the ordinary QX80 Luxe and the fancier QX80 Limited are the two models’ wheel designs.

The QX80’s fuel economy is just plain horrible, with no diesel or hybrid model to relieve the pain. Accompanying the QX80 Limited’s gray and black interior motif are a dashboard, center consoles (both front and rear), and doors lined with matte silver Ash wood trim.

In place of the QX80 Luxe’s wood- and leather-lined steering wheel, the Limited boasts a strictly leather-lined unit. Our tester also wore a coat of $500 Anthracite gray paint that nicely contrasted with the exterior’s other satin chrome bits. Choose from five available colours including Anthracite Grey – a shade you won’t find on any other INFINITI.
