Rewatching it in blu ray was quite the experience, I watched it with my children who enjoyed it very much and like I did as a child they loved the funky voice of Audrey the plant and enjoyed the "feed me" song. Just a hell of a lot of fun from first to last. It's so cool to see the "original" ending. I’ve seen very poor quality versions of that footage, and very bad edits of it assembled into what it might have looked like in the movie, but this is the first time you can see that original ending mastered, cleaned up, professionally edited, and audio mixed for an enjoyable watch! I watched this at an early age and I still love it now and sing along to the songs as much as I ever did! Love this movie! It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Rentals include 30 days to start watching this video and 48 hours to finish once started. It never seemed to fit with the overall tone of the rest of the film, but still I never suspected foul play and always assumed this was the way the movie intended to be! It's a great story executed really well and the musical numbers are such a hoot. If they were ever to do a remake and were to use CG effects, I still don't think it would hold a candle to this film's movie magic. The secret version I never even knew about in glorious HD!! I watched it on a 65" tv and it looked great. I hear "I Am Your Dentist" every time I'm in the chair and "Somewhere That's Green" every time I mow my lawn. The dentist scenes and song and watching Steve Martins take on this character will always be my favourite parts of the film by far- I just love the comedic value of the sadistic dentist with a penchant for rock and roll and how stylistic his every move is- he's in full swing here and it's awesome. Seymour dosen't have much going for him apart for his love of exotic plants and his secret love for shop assistant Audrey (Ellen Greene). Would definitely tell you to pick it up, especially in blu Ray, Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2017. this is such a great film and I don't think it ever really got the praise it deserves.. Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2020. Rick Moranis is a nerdy flower clerk who is forced to lure in victims for his bloodthirsty talking plant in this musical comedy. With a geeky Rick Moranis and a scary Steve Martin, this film doesn't fail to please. Love the songs, love pretty much everything about it. Simply great after all these years to see the version of the film they wanted to put out, complete with spectacular, very black and very apocalyptic ending..if you are a fan of the original film,do not miss a chance to get this Director's Cut and marvel at what the makers originally intended but stupid "focus groups" with selected viewers's dumb opinions tried to ruin! Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2018. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 1, 2013. I enjoy the film and luckily it was inexpensive to acquire another copy. I could see how this would confuse people that haven't seen or don't know about the two different endings. The edited theatrical version was all I had ever known and must admit I always hated the ending with the white picket fence and the googly kids! It is the one consistent with the Stage version, which is much better than the one released at the insistence of the stupid studio executives, who did not understand that it was structured as a Greek Tragedy, completed with the Chorus. It never seemed to fit with the overall tone of the rest of the film, but still I never suspected foul play and always assumed this was the way the movie intended to be! Though the music itself is really wonderful. Soon the plant, named Audrey II, is growing and talking (!) Little weird that they would sell new copies that don't include both endings. I remember viewing a behind the scenes clip on how they used animatronics. I've produced this show - and what a splendid show it is. I grew up watching this movie (on VHS). Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2018. As a child I absolutely adored this movie, as I'm sure anyone considering purchasing this will have also done, the songs have stayed in my head well into adulthood and although I'm not particularly a fan of musicals this one is superb, the songs are fantastic and catchy and the performances are second to none. As a movie fanatic I can't believe I had never heard of this directors cut before! It’s all on Hulu. Video availability outside of United States varies. and demanding more blood. Frank Oz did an excellent job on this film,, as did everyone in the cast. Seymour finds himself in a dilemna - should he give the plant what it wants and make all his dreams come true? I am so happy they finally put this on BluRay, and actually assembled a watchable version of the original ending footage that had been cut out! FINALLY! Very impressive and ingenius the strategies they used to impress its audience members. It captures an era, a mood, a period in time, as no other movie has ever done. Flesh, human blood. It's amazing to me how well Audrey II is portrayed in this film. The sound is excellent, the picture is superb- obviously there is still the odd amount of grain here and there but overall it is a worthwhile transfer and they have done a great job at bringing it up to a higher definition standard.
